Simple Balance Introduction
No, it’s not just a smug title. *wink* It’s two words with individual purposes that when put together become extremely powerful. It’s two things we all strive to attain - whether we recognize it or not. And because I personally know countless people (especially busy moms!) who are trying hard to achieve both in their lives, I’m going to share my thoughts and tips in a series here.
Today’s section is on understanding what it is and why we need it. Hopefully, you’ll get just enough of a lift to get ready to dig your heels in.
The pull of the world screams complex and extreme. There are a million new gadgets every day to explore, purchase, etc. and heaven knows there are at least a million options to occupy our time and energies. As women, deciding what tasks to engage in becomes a customized challenge that I believe centers around our unique traits as women.
Unlike our counterparts (forgive me for generalizing men), we as women are generally thinkers. We think through things, we think ahead, we think consequences, we think of others (often before ourselves), etc. This is why we are good organizers, planners and caregivers. I believe this is by divine design. Consequently, we may be less prone to succumb to a lot of empty time fillers but we will be more eager to take on an overload of good things for ourselves and our families. So our great battle is in finding the balance between all the good things for ourselves and our families.
This isn’t a coincidence. You see the adversary has one goal - to see us all miserable and fallen; torn apart from that divine potential and creature that is in us so we will spend our time and energy licking our own wounds and feeding hollow cravings instead of reaching our full potential, building and helping others or generally making worthwhile contributions to the world we live in. Worse, is that because women have such a powerful impact on the future (remember we are the hands that rock the cradle - and therefore a nation) we will be targeted with severity.
Taking time to recognize and sift through the many good activities and projects that we engage in becomes a critical part of us succeeding. If we allow ourselves to be sucked into the busy whirlwind - albeit a raging funnel of good causes, we will lose valuable energy and focus. Our lives become cluttered and balance is lost. We waste our energy and skills battling the personal demon of failure and exhaustion that accompanying the complexity that has become our lives and schedules.
The answer is to simplify and find balance. And you’d be amazed at how easy the two really can be to attain - actually I think that’s why we miss it. Maybe it’s too simple so we glaze over it convinced there must be some truly complicated algorithm to solve it.
No matter what your circumstances you can look around you and find ways to start. In the earliest stages it is easier for us to see where spend our time than to tackle the scale of balance. But the two are one in the same. Take this blog for example. I have so much I want to do, say and share. But I have to be smart about balance and complexity. I can’t write everything I have to share on this topic in one post (not just because I don’t have enough time right now, but because you don’t have enough time to read that much either!!) so I will break it down and split it over a few entries on various areas. This way I keep it simple AND I find balance in my time and personal life.
If I’ve done my part, you should have a renewed understanding and determination to attain simplicity and balance in your own life. You should recognize and value yourself and your influence. You should feel a desire to beat back the demon and feed the magical potential inside yourself. And you should be toying with the notion that this is quite possible - maybe even excited to find out how easy it really is. You’re on your way to greatness. *wink*
Your task today is to SIMPLY choose to recognize and become aware of where your spending your time and energies. That’s it.
Now go find your running shoes because you’re on your way.
