Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Young Body Gone?
Oh where, oh where can it be? My memory thinks it was only yesterday that I was running down the high school halls, but my body is telling me otherwise these days.
Last night my husband and I were discussing aches and pains as he brought up his wrists and finger joints hurting on occasion. I told him he knew what that meant and he simply replied that he doesn’t believe in carpal tunnel therefore he won’t get it. LOL I told him when I was experiencing early signs back in my salon days the doctor told me to just add as much variety to my hand usage with different motions as was possible. He asked me what he could differently with his hands. I smiled.
Here’s the real sign of getting older. This didn’t result in immediate action on his part. In fact the discussion continued and ended with us both going to sleep. I asked him when we reached the point that sleep sounded better than intimacy. He said that years ago we didn’t have kids and jobs. Hmmmm. I guess it could work but I’m afraid age is the bigger factor. Gravity is taking over, I don’t bounce back up the way I used to after physical exercise. In fact, I nursed an aching elbow for a couple days after the last big workout cleaning the inside of my car and carpets. How lame is that?
I’m also noticing that my high school metabolism is slipping too. Thankfully the transition has been slow but I can see and feel it. I keep telling myself I’ll get off my duff and start toning and exercising but that’s not happening either. Robyn recently added to my incentive pulling the perspective of being around for my grand kids. Great, now we’re discussing grand parenting! LOL Seriously though, I know I should be doing more I just keep falling of my new routine and exercise ideas bandwagon as fast as I jump on these days.
At least I’ve learned to appreciate more what I have now - something that was definitely missing in years past. I find myself yearning less for the future and enjoying more the now. I hope my kids get that lesson from me. In the meantime if it takes a little Bengay and diet soda so be it.
Now where did I put my glasses and theGeritol?

I totally know how you feel!
I do the same thing, I get all excited about starting up my
new exercise and diet program and then throw it out the window
as soon as I start it!
Now why do we do that?
It does get harder the older we get, I just turned 42!
Scary where has the time gone?
The older my kids get the older I feel
Thank you for your comment
I was actually excited to get it,
I rarely get comments so it was nice to see it
I will link your blog in mine now
Have a wonderful day

My husband and I were talking about this JUST this morning! I had to schedule him for a doctors appointment because his shoulder hurts from a skiing… well from skiing.
Doesn’t take much to get sore anymore. I hear you!

I still see that high schooler when I look in the mirror even though she is LONG gone…
I’m thinking I need to buy stock in Advil with all my old-age aches and pains.

I wanted to read this post again before commenting, but I need to get new glasses first.

I know, it’s hard! I actually went to the playground yesterday and played FULL OUT on the swings and monkey bars with my kids. I didn’t last but about 20 mins before I hit the benches, but it sure was a fun 20 mins (and my kids LOVED it!).

Robyn, I just want to know if you did the monkey bars? I tried at my daughter’s coaxing not long ago and nearly pulled my arm from it’s socket. I couldn’t believe how hard it was!!
Hugs,
Holly

How dare, upon hitting 40, “things” begin to happen. You finally gain a tiny bit of wisdom and perspective, you finally feel totally comfortable in your own skin and “like” who you’re becoming, and your body goes “whack”. Dang it!! I didn’t believe in carpel tunnel til I got it (third pregnancy, the pain was soooo severe, it woke me up at night. To this day, I have NEVER understood 1) how the wrist brace I borrowed helped me and 2) why it mysteriously went away all together as soon as I delivered and 3) why it didn’t happen the first two go-rounds).
A 41-year-old friend just found out he has MAJOR heart problems…on three meds (overnight) and complete lifestyle change. Seeing someone that close in age to us has motivated us to do things differently. Gosh, change is hard!
Hope your hubby finds something different to do w/his hands tonight ;).

[...] The next two go hand in hand. I have a blog on top of my other websites and computer projects now. And of course, I’ve already complained on it. Heck, why stop there? I also blogged about being too tired yesterday! I figure I’ll just make up for quality what I lack in quantity. ‘Nuff said. I can also roll the next one in here too as I only got caught up this morning with e-mails and blogging because my 3 year old was so content to watch TV and play video games until it was time for school. Hmmmmmm, wish I could say I was sorry about that but we’re both happy! [...]

oh my goodness, how true this is! I layed in bed last night whining to my husband about all the body parts that hurt, he said “what did you do?” I said, “I walked on our concrete floors today with no tennis shoes on.” How sad that all my muscles hurt because I do not have proper shock absorption. I am not even 30! And they say it gets worse after 30, and then again after 40! UGGH! And all those stupid commercials about weight loss after 30, I had no metabolism at 15,and you are telling me it gets worse after 30? Boy oh boy! I am going for a walk…Later.

Holly, I just turned 40 this year, and I can TOTALLY
relate to this! I used to have very fast metabolism
and had always been healthy & lean, and then all of
a sudden all sort of health problems happened this
year. You hurt yourself so easily when you get old.
My husband, extremely athletic guy, never hurt
himself doing martial arts, but pulled his back….
vacuuming the floor of our family car. LOL!
Warmly,
Hueina
