Simple Balance Organizing & Planning I

Filed under: Balance, Family, Homemaker, Inspiration, Organizing, Potential, Sharing, Success — holly.schwendiman @ 12:00 pm

Alrighty, now that you’re geared up it’s time to tackle the fun stuff. Many people tell me how warped I am to view organizing as a hobby. But what they don’t realize is that in order for it to truly work for me I have to keep it as a hobby. Further by viewing it this way it takes on a positive connotation that can help me want to explore it. And we all know how big a factor motivation is.

The Winner I Was Born To Be

Filed under: Balance, Emotions, Inspiration, Perspectives, Positive Impact, Potential, Success — holly.schwendiman @ 9:31 am

ChampionA few years ago I was blown away in a meeting. A young man of only 21 was speaking. He was unrecognizable from the young man we had all known two years earlier. It was truly miraculous to witness the confidence flowing from this once timid and awkward young man. He shared the key in his transformation with us as he repeated his daily mantra. I suppose you had to be there to understand, but it’s not a short thing so to hear it repeated with precision and conviction was beyond intriguing. The requests for copies of it were so plentiful that his mother typed it up. Here it is: (more…)

Simple Balance Household & Laundry I

Filed under: Balance, Family, Homemaker, Housework, Inspiration, Organizing, Parenting, Positive Impact, Potential, Sharing, Success — holly.schwendiman @ 9:54 am

I’m on a roll so here’s the first tip. Although it may not appear so, it is a lesson in itself that this is the first area to have a post on sharing a simple balance tip. Why you ask? Because it took every fiber of my being to not begin in my beloved area of organization. And why wouldn’t I start there you ask? Because I’ve learned the hard way that while organization is key and wonderful, when starting something the best jolt is to get started! Organizers can fall into a trap of spending all their time and energy planning instead of acting. So I’m sharing my first tip in an area where application is readily attainable and rewarding. (*see* how I’m slowly learning balance in my life?)

Simple Balance Overview

Yesterday I started a series on simplicity and balance. I pointed out the greatest reasons why we strive for them and why it’s so tough. I challenged the reader to take the first step by making the simple choice to become aware of where you spend your time and energies. I also shared, through example, the importance of breaking down our tasks by explaining that this tip sharing concept would be made into a series of smaller and more manageable posts. Today’s task is to organize those smaller steps.

Here’s what I’ll cover in this series: (more…)

It’s a Big Blogosphere

Filed under: FYI, General, Sharing — holly.schwendiman @ 11:24 am

I’ve been finding a lot of my time in the mornings going to reading other blogs. Last night I was telling my husband how incredible the concept of the blog is. (He’s rolling his eyes because HE’s the one that had to beg, plead and never give up encouraging to get me to start blogging!)

Simple Balance Introduction

Filed under: Balance, Emotions, Family, Inspiration, Organizing, Positive Impact, Potential, Sharing, Success — holly.schwendiman @ 10:16 am

No, it’s not just a smug title. *wink* It’s two words with individual purposes that when put together become extremely powerful. It’s two things we all strive to attain - whether we recognize it or not. And because I personally know countless people (especially busy moms!) who are trying hard to achieve both in their lives, I’m going to share my thoughts and tips in a series here.

Today’s section is on understanding what it is and why we need it. Hopefully, you’ll get just enough of a lift to get ready to dig your heels in.

Thought Process Overload

Filed under: Balance, Homemaker, Housework, Inspiration, Organizing, Positive Impact, Potential, Sharing, Success — holly.schwendiman @ 10:17 am

So I’ve been sitting here this morning with overload bells going off in my head. Today it’s not from my house, it’s from my head.

Last Thursday I tackled the house major and it felt wonderful to get it all done before I went to bed. Today I’m wishing I had a steam cleaner to help me be as productive with my brain and project output!

I have SO many things I want so badly to get done on my computer. Books, writings, posts, files, creating. . . the list is endless. But balance wins, so I will just have to keep working at my list in time controlled spurts. With my patience factor I’ve always wanted to tackle instead of ride the waves. This is generally a good thing but it can also be overwhelming.

Today I’m looking back to gather strength. It’s amazing how much I’ve gotten done in a short time, and how reflective this site is of who I am. The pause to reflect calms me down and helps me focus on steady effort. On August 4th I began this project of my blog and streamlining all my sites and projects under one umbrella. Today the structure is place, many pages and files have been created, (although the creative reproduction process is working over time as every time I work on it about 10 more great ideas pop into my head for other things I want to write or create. LOL!) and traffic is already booming even though I haven’t redirected other URLs yet!

I’m realizing how much like my life this blog is. It is a constant work in progress with a constant desire to get ahead of the curve. It’s funny how our personality weaves its way into everything we do!

Sweet, Sweet Victory

Filed under: ADHD, Family, Inspiration, Motherhood, Parenting, Positive Impact, Sharing, Success — holly.schwendiman @ 4:03 pm

Well, today was the first game of my daughter’s soccer experience. It was a great start, ending in a 3-0 victory for the Bumble Bees. Way to go girls!!

When we moved into our home this past summer, one of the neighbors called to let me know that many of the kids in our neighborhood played soccer on the same team and wanted to know if our daughter would like to play. That was a no brainer - - - friends her age, new skill, confidence boost, coordination development and the biggest plus of all: running out some of her endless energy (a BIG plus for ADHD kids!)

I’m still scratching my head wondering when my baby grew up. These kinds of activities seemed so far away. Now they’re here and they’ll be gone before I know it. For today I’m going to bask in the glory of victory with her.

Here’s some pictures of the game: Cid’s First Soccer Game

Raising Parents

Filed under: Balance, FYI, Family, Funnies, Inspiration, Parenting, Perspectives, Relationships, Sharing — holly.schwendiman @ 2:19 pm

Who knew raising parents didn’t get easier as you got older? It’s not a job for the faint of heart that’s for sure.

As a child you spend all your time teaching them the basics: play more, enjoy food, express your feelings. As a teen you work on the independent lessons of playing more, diet and emotional release. As young adults you help them master sharing of play, food and emotions. Apparently, middle age is about reverting.

I used to rely on my parents for everything, now they rely on me for many things. I used to be the one who was told when to go to the doctor and to take my medicine, now I’m the one telling them. I used to swear I’d never “do” or “say” that when I was a parent, yet I find myself knee deep in eating my words on a daily basis. I used to get handfuls of advice, now I get requests for advice.

Amazing how much work it takes to get them raised! *wink*
