Dang It…He WAS Right!
Well, add another item to the list of the genius. To quote the famous Captain Jack Sparrow with one minor edit, “There’ll be no living with [him] after this.”

Thanks to all of you wonderful readers and bloggers, who are now many additional, dear friends with whom I spend my time, you’ve given him one more notch on his smartie pants belt. It’s a darn good thing he has such a cute big head or I wouldn’t be able to live with him. What am I talking about you ask? This blog.
You see, it’s his fault I’m here and that you’re now here reading this. He’s been at my heels a long time trying to get me into blogging. I told him I had enough to do already and no one would care what I had to say on a blog. I wasn’t like him. I didn’t have a fantastic book I was trying to build a platform for to find a publisher, which gave birth to his blog. I wasn’t a crafty, witty writer of short stories that could deliver. I didn’t have a service to sell or promote like his many google modules and widgets. I certainly didn’t have his brain for the technology behind it. In short, I could see no reason for me to jump on the bandwagon.

But he persisted and on August 4, 2006 I let him set me one up. And he gloated. A few weeks later I admitted that he may be right and everything snowballed. A few days later I found the direction for my blog. Now I had a reason to learn more about it so I joined/signed up at Technorati. My opening rank was in the high 700,000 range. Eight weeks later I broke 160,000. Apparently someone was reading my blog. What’s more is my traffic graph indicates that 50-60% of my traffic is returning traffic. Hmmmmm.
Now I see my blog dashboard more than the one in my car- heck, I even know what one IS! I find myself checking statistics and reading about other people that a few months ago I had no interest in and/or didn’t know. I know what RSS is and worst of all I learned some html code which I swore would never happen in all those years he kept bringing me home books on it. All of my online efforts are coming together in one happy place and because I’m a woman of integrity I have to give credit where credit is due.
So today, I give full credit and thanks to my darling husband for being right. Of course I hate giving him the ability to flout the “I told you so” in my face but it’s worth it for all the good things that have come from it. This past week has been an amazing one for me. I was chosen for the weekly blog jolt which brought on an onslaught of wonderful comments, posts, traffic and friendship. I also won my first blogging award from one of my best new friends, Kelly, AND island chocolates from another wonderful new friend, Kailani. I can’t begin to explain the boost this week has been. I’ve been to so many wonderful blogs who make it sound like I actually know what I’m talking about sometimes! LOL I only hope I can return the boost. It begins with this trackback to everyone who shared the link love with me this week! And it continues with the wonderful friendship I’ve formed in such a short time with some really amazing people. All the while, I’m shaking my head that it’s only been a matter of weeks!
It just goes to show that there is a niche and desire out there for sincerity. That you don’t have to be selling a product to have what you’re sharing be of value. And most importantly that there are a lot more people out there that you can relate to than you ever thought possible! So to all of you, I send my heartfelt thanks and hugs. You’re the best! Thanks for letting me soar with you.
Hugs,
Holly

Holly, I’m very grateful to the blogJolt project for bringing us all together. But it seems I owe a special thanks to your fella for pushing you our way in the first place!
Congratulations on a wonderful week.

Holly, I’ve got a techie question. There’s a trackback on a comment at my site that’s pointing to this story. But why?
(And now everyone in the world will know that I don’t understand trackbacks!)

Woo hoo, congrats Holly (and the wonderful Blake too).
Yours is one of the first blogs I set up in my Google Reader (thanks to Blakes suggestion) and I look forward to the articles you write.

(dumb question alert)
How do you send a trackback without posting a link? I thought it was a link that generated them?
Comment by katiebird — October 20, 2006 @ 4:21 pm
Ah - trackbacks are fun but not as easy as they should be. Look for a Trackback URL or link on the blog’s article - copy it (right clicking brings up a “copy shortcut” that works great for me), then paste it in your dashboard’s command area. In WordPress there’s a box under the message area that says “Trackbacks” and I paste the URL there that I want to track back to. It took me a few tries to get the hang of it so you’re in great company. That’s my personal experience with them and the Reader’s Digest condensed version but it’s a start!
Hugs,
Holly

Oh, for heaven’s sake! I never even LOOKed at that! How interesting — now I want to know what a custom field is (running off to the WordPress CodeX)
Thank you very, very much! I’m so glad I overcame my resistence and asked!

PS — and KAILANI! How can you be blogging right now???? you’re like somewhere between Honolulu and Orlando right now. I’m entirely jealous.
I’m lucky to get my commenting done in my living room/office.

Well you gotta give him credit for doing something good every once in a while, right? He did good and all the rest of the blogosphere gets to benefit from him being right!
ROFL - balance in the universe seems to be a constant doesn’t it? Thanks for the comment!

[...] Like the time I told him early in our marriage that he had to stop assuming responsibility for every emotional shift I had; which he may have adapted a little too well. Or the time he commented on my first writing project. He demolished me by simply saying I should stick to speaking because I couldn’t write. After I picked up the pieces and became objective he was right – the first version really stunk. LOL And we all know he made up for that one. *wink* And getting a nice compliment on my writing from an English major didn’t hurt this week either. LOL [...]

Hi Holly
So glad your jolt went so well, you deserve it after all the input you have given to the members. I really enjoy blogging too, and 5 months ago I had never heard of a blog! I initially started in the hope of selling some craft work via my blog but that part of it has just become a bonus that goes along with doing something I love.

[...] I’m Holly, adoptive mother of two miracles and happy wife of 15 years to Blake. It’s his fault I’m blogging. I believe all of us have a divine spark of greatness and I’m working to make my life a masterpiece. This blog lets me share so much of what I do and learn along my journey. [...] I have to take just a moment today to share some thoughts on blogging today. It’s such a weird word isn’t it? I’m not sure what a replacement would be because this is the only word we’ve known now but it sounds so sluggish to me. I’ve shared in the past my reasons for getting into this media outlet so I won’t go there again. Suffice it to say that everyone has their reasons and when you began is likely a large indicator as to what your reason was. But I will take a moment to share some thoughts about the developments and patterns I’ve noticed since I’ve been a blogger. (Why does that word make me think of booger?) [...]
