Ever Feel Small?
I was just browsing some of the blogs at random on the 2000 project. I’m feeling very small and little bit like a one-eyed alien.
There are like a gazillion blogs with content on how to find success - be it with your blog, making money, personal development/mastery, etc. There also seems to be a general market for business or organizations who are trying to capitalize on the blogging environment for exposure and support to their efforts. And the largest personal association I’ve had with blogging is with those who use it primarily to share personal content, interests, etc.
I actually came to the blogging realm through continued pulls from my husband. He thought people would like what I had to say. I didn’t think I had anything to say nor was I convinced that anyone would ever read it or care. But I was intrigued with the idea of utilizing the new tool as a means to streamline my online energies and projects. So with his push and setting everything up for me, my site grew to house the concept of a blog. Now it wasn’t just Holly’s Corner, but Holly’s Corner Blog. Ironically, I never thought it would house much writing.
My primary purpose was to get all my many projects and websites under one general umbrella where I could tend and cultivate all of it. Additionally, I’d be able to accomplish this without letting things go stale for lack of attention. Not only does this purpose seem to me to be completely foreign, but it also appears to defy the blogging advice from the big dogs - to pick one thing/purpose to blog about. While other bloggers were multiplying their sites with additional blogs for different topics my very point was to simplify, eliminating multiple sites of various purposes into one.
Within a few weeks I found a concept that satisfied me. Essentially, I came up with this:
Holly’s Corner is a reflection of my personal journey to making my life a masterpiece. I believe there is a divine spark of greatness in all of us. My goal is to discover my own and share what I learn along the way.
This seemed to fit my first purpose of the blog as a master backup of all my many computer files, as well as sharing bits and pieces of my life and experiences some for fun, others for meaning. The response to sharing the bits and pieces was so well received that it quickly took the majority of my time as far as my purposes went. Not to mention how intimidating the task of converting and copying all my many projects, desktop publishing, website designs, media creations, etc., etc., etc. are so it’s very easy to procrastinate. *wink* I haven’t checked, but I’m pretty sure the number of articles written has now surpassed the number of files I’ve gotten converted and uploaded.
So I was able to sneak a way of “one purpose” into my efforts, but without question I am just weird as blogs go. My blog doesn’t fit any mold. It houses personal files of ideas and projects that I freely share with anyone interested. And although my blog does house personal shares of daily funnies in the daily life of mom and wife, it also shares meaningful lessons of life’s truths I’m learning along the journey. Obviously, I have much more to share than I once believed because I’m spending the vast majority of my time writing instead of creating and converting the way I originally thought I would. The continual creep of the rating and stats says it’s growing but I’m not doing anything new or different. So it’s a bit of a puzzler actually beyond the logical explanation that time is all that’s needed for any of us.
When Tiggerprr shared this site with me I had to giggle. I won’t bother submitting my site because I’m sure I’d get something like this:
Simon: I’ll give you credit for sharing more than sappy stories, but really - what’s your point? Do you honestly think the world needs one more sappy do gooder? It was absolutely karaoke quality and boring, dripping with goodness. The only good thing I can say is that at least your content isn’t 90% memes and poopy diapers but I won’t remember you in .5 seconds. Who are you again?
Paula: The concept is so positive. [Simon: But who cares?] (Rolling eyes) I thought it was well balanced with information and some of the articles made me stop and think for a moment. [Simon: Yeah, but who cares?] It’s not a chart breaker. [Simon: Isn’t that the point of a blog?] As I was saying before so rudely being cut off….again…It’s not a chart breaker but I think it has potential.
Randy: Dawg. I’m not sure where to put you. Are you a life coach, mommy, graphic designer, web designer, writer or what? I’m just left a bit confused ‘ya know? I dunno Dawg, I dunno.
At the end of the day, I still feel small.

Oh my gosh, Holly! This is exactly how I feel…I refuse to fragment myself by
becoming a niche blogger and centralizing in on one topic. I’m the common thread
running thru all the interests I write about.
And I found a better way to display all those 2000 Blogger pics. But I like the way
you’ve linked directly to Tino. All you gotta do on his page is right-click (not on
a pic) and choose View Source and copy his code. I think it should let you, if you
ever want to display all the pics.
Anyhoo, good day and hugs. It’s weird how this comment runs all the way across and
doesn’t word wrap but forces me to hit the enter key for a hard carriage return. (Boy,
I’m aging myself with that talk, huh?) But I’m going to set up a WordPress site soon
so I gotta know how it behaves. Are you the WordPress guru?
God bless!
Paula

Who cares what supposed category I am supposed to fit in? Who cares what some random idiot thinks of my blog? There was a time that I would have actually read a blog like that… the odd thing is that they are making fun of other bloggers… if they didn’t have that lame schtick, they wouldn’t have anything else to say. That’s why I don’t read gossip blogs anymore… it gets old. I loved how they told Tiggerprr that she needed to branch out and do something more than one thing, yet they are doing the same crud every post.
Blah. Sorry about that. It’s weird, I just did the Carnival of Blogging Chicks theme of what I learned from blogging, and in my post I wrote that I have learned to be myself and to not try to impress people by being something I am not.
Holly, you don’t have to fit a mold. People (whether they lurk or comment) are reading your blog for a reason. the reason is that though you may wear many different hats, you are you. There is just something about ya! You always have something nice to say, and are so positive. Sure, you have your moments… you are only human.
I say keep on enjoying what you are doing, and do what YOU want to do. If you are so worried about what other people think, you aren’t being true to your blogging self. Plus blogging becomes a burden, I find when I feel this way all of my creativity gets sucked out of me. I take a break, sometimes for only a day… and try to remember why I started blogging in the first place. I go from there.
OK, I’ll jump off my cheerleader soapbox now. :O)
Thanks for the cheerleading! LOL It’s a good thing that people don’t have to fit molds because there’s no possible way. What I love about blogging is meeting so many other people that have their own unique molds! Thanks for the kind thoughts and energy!!

Thanks for the American Idol giggles this morning!!! See how far reaching your ‘little’ corner of the world really is? It brought a little laughter into my home this morning
. I love visiting here…half the fun of visiting is not knowing what to expect
You’re welcome, it was pretty easy to come up with given that the three are so predictable. LOL I love so much hearing from you.

LOL I loved your own take on the “American Idol” theme that those snarky folks over at italk2much were doing! It was great!
I think that we’re kind of at the same bloggy crossroads…but I don’t think you should feel small in the least. Except in the same way that we’re all really small in the grand scheme of things. I write my blog because the things I have to write about either make me happy, sad, laugh or infuriate me enough to want to write it down. Your posts strike a chord with me, and often because what you say has some direct impact on something I am feeling or experiencing at that moment. I call that you being in my “life” for a reason.
Thanks for sharing those thoughts! I absolutely believe that we cross paths with others for reasons we can’t begin to comprehend. It’s truly amazing to me. Snarky is easy - a little too easy isn’t it? LOL

First, I love American Idol, although I could never stand before Simon. Second. My site also came from a loving push from my hubby. He, a webdesigner, thought it would be a great idea for me because it is my heart to help other moms. But I wanted a once a month, or once a week article, and then he introduced me to a blog. A what? A blog. Now, I am hooked. And the funny thing is it has become it’s own creature. I thought I would be giving “Supernanny” type advice, but it is now sharing whatever journey God has me on. Supernanny is great but gets boring after awhile, same advice week after week, And I blog 5 days a week.
Anyway, I love visiting your site, and more than likely because it does have it’s own personality, is why it is growing. Congrats.
What a great way to put it Angel. It’s amazing how they do take on a life of their own isn’t it? It is definitely fun and addicting. ;o)

Size doesn’t matter. It’s the quality of the friendships that you encounter along the way. And I consider you a true friend!
Amen to that, and I consider you a true friend too! Hope you’re feeling better today!

Holly,
The one thing I love about blogging is I don’t feel so alone, I’ve learned so much, and made so many wonderful friends. You are a wonderful friend, and I couldn’t stop laughing at your American Idol bit. That is hilarious.
Aww shucks, way to make a girl feel good! Always Glad to have another wonderful friend. As Homer Simpson says, “Funny ’cause it’s true.” LOL

Just remember Holly, my newest good friend-”Well-behaved women seldom make history.” You are putting it out there, juggling everything—taking chances. I admire that!
Hmmm now there’s something to ponder…nothing ventured, nothing gained right? Right back at ‘ya on the newest good friend. ;o)
