This is my new word, whack-a-doo. I’m pretty happy with it and I’ve been using it a lot lately. You know how sometimes you get a new word and you just work it - often until you kill it? Well this is my new one, and I’m liking it. I hope I don’t kill it or at least not too quick ’cause it’s really growing on me. It’s also quite appropriate for the thoughts I have to share this morning.

His perspective:
Sleep is a simple thing. You lie down, roll on your side and fall asleep. The only decision is when to roll onto your side. This should be pretty simple, but if you’re married, you already know that it’s not. You can’t in good conscience roll onto your side in the middle of a conversation. But sometimes you just can’t help it. You may try to keep the conversation going by forcing yourself to respond, but you know that you just can’t hear once you roll onto your side. It just doesn’t work.

Time is a funny thing. It seems to speed up or slow down depending on our current situation. I know it’s our perception but it sure feels real. When you want/need time to speed up it seems to purposely slow down just to aggravate you. I’m quite certain that when I was freezing my toes off supporting friends or family at some sports game in inclement weather that time was frozen too. Or like the many years wanting to be a mom and finding it ever elusive. Many of those years felt like time had nearly come to standstill. Or how about those minutes when you’ve got a few extra kids at your house and you know you only have to make it 15 more minutes…you get the idea.
Then there’s the speed problem. This happens when you want/need time to slow down and it just keeps playing against you. These are the days, seasons, times in your life when no matter what you try it seems you can barely keep your head above water and even while dog paddling you take in several gulps of water. This seems to be the case when household chores build up and try as you might there’s never enough time to get them done. Or time on vacation that seems to speed by at a very unfair pace when you’re certain it took double work and efforts just to get to it in the first place. And how about how quick your kids grow? That’s just plain unfair.
All I can say, is that it’s a darn good thing we don’t have a remote control over time. A very wise system was set in place that we would not be able to mess with - there are 24 hours in a day…period. So here I sit, looking at my kids wondering how on earth they can possibly turn 5 and 10 this year (and definitely in denial that I have a niece turning 19) and at the same time wondering how the first 1.5 hours of my day lasted an eternity. Hmmm, I just can’t seem to win.

Everything in life is progressive, yet I’m constantly amazed at how often I miss this. When you’re looking to the finish line of a particular task, goal or project, it’s easy to get caught up in the current step you’re taking as the one that will get you to that line, even if it’s only the first or second step. But in reality, everything we do in our lives builds more bridges and opportunities down the road. And sometimes we may even abandon a project or path because the step we took didn’t speed us to the finish line, but find that years later those steps still provided progress toward that abandoned or forgotten project. This morning I was reminded of that.

Well, I got 3 out of the 4 right. I really thought Nicole would have had another week and that Leslie would go first. I was so happy that both Chris and Blake made it through the first cuts. Did you happen to notice the voice in the song they used for the goodbye video clips? I’m pretty darn sure that was Chris Daughtry singing the words of being careful what you wish for. They didn’t have any details on their credits though so I couldn’t confirm it. But I made my husband back it up to listen to it again and he agreed that it had to be Chris. Anyone else watch the cuts and have any feedback?
As a flute player myself, I have to give a shout-out to this dude - he makes it cool. With Blake Lewis beat box’n the Idol stage I have to say the beat box is finding a groove with me.
Last season it was my husband who blogged American Idol. This year he passed the torch to me. I’m not exactly sure why as we both tend to agree and discuss the same at home, but alas here I sit.

Okay, so I find myself with a few priceless moments of free time. It’s early release today for school (don’t ask, I don’t understand it just know it seems to happen an awful lot for ‘administrative’ purposes), my daughter just pulled a ‘make mommy proud’ moment by playing with a girl across the street, my son is at a birthday party and I’m blogging as fast as my fingers will go.
In the past 40 minutes I’ve been on overload of positive vibes and I just can’t sit on it I have to share! I mean there are good days, and then there are GOOD DAYS, and this one is shaping up to be the latter!
