All Things Whack-A-Doo

Filed under: Funnies, Blogging, TV Talk — holly.schwendiman @ 10:36 am

This is my new word, whack-a-doo. I’m pretty happy with it and I’ve been using it a lot lately. You know how sometimes you get a new word and you just work it - often until you kill it? Well this is my new one, and I’m liking it. I hope I don’t kill it or at least not too quick ’cause it’s really growing on me. It’s also quite appropriate for the thoughts I have to share this morning.

First, the Idol chitchat. I was going to wait until after tonight to post anything but after yesterday I think I’ll just share a few thoughts. Miss Antonella Barba: in a word -whack-a-doo! It’s too bad for her the exploit of her private affairs hit after such a terrible performance last week. My opinions of no excuse being good enough for what surfaced aside, I don’t think it matters much because I don’t think she has/had much time left before elimination anyway. Still, my heart breaks for her parents who must have been so proud with her poor choices exploited so visibly, obviously made under some pressure from peers. I hope to use this to my advantage with my own daughter though, showing her that all decisions we make impact our lives and nothing is only ever JUST about us. I predict this blow with last week’s performance will leave a mark.

I thought the guys stepped it up a notch last night. I really enjoyed seeing Sundance come to life and went back to watch Blake’s performance a few times after the show ended. He’s just fun to watch. I think that the dedications night gives the viewers a chance to make a more personal connection with the contestants which I’m sure is why they do it. I mean who knew Chris was married, Sundance had a wee babe and Phil would work that patriotic ticket? Smart producers, very smart. Poor Sanjaya - not smart and I’m quite certain his rank in the top 4 will be impacted by last night’s performance. Here’s a whacky thought though - I think he’s a cross between Prince, Michael Jackson and Donny Osmand! And Chris Richardson is a cross of Justin Timberlake and Leonardo DeCaprio to me. Funny how those things hit me.

As long as TV topics are on the plate, I’m totally sucked into Jack Bauer’s whack-a-doo family. Man, his family tree can make anyone appreciate their own and they’re not even halfway through the show yet. I’m sure we’re going to learn many more, one of which I think might be that Graham’s son is really Jack’s biological son. But that’s just an early hunch. And suffice it to say that I was just as surprised that the second bomb of the season actually went off. They are pulling out all the stops and this is what keeps me coming back for my weekly 24 fix. And that is whack-a-doo!

I also have to give a shout out for Heroes that is stepping up its game in recent episodes. Last night was much more intense than I expected and I’m finally seeing a brighter future for this series. Sylar is totally whack-a-doo-icious (ha! a new one) and clearly takes the cake for psychos. I just hope Dr. Suresh catches on before it’s too late and I hope Peter and his whack-a-doo family pull it together quick!

So there’s some random tidbits on all that’s whack. Maybe this should become a recurring theme? Heaven knows we could never run out of material.

  1. I am sorry now that I didn’t keep up with Heros, and what I don’t like is that sometimes NBC.com doesn’t put up the whole episodes… so I guess I will have to wait for netflix.

    I love whack-a-doo!

Netflix is the bomb too, which reminds me it’s about time for my semi-annual trip to update my queue LOL. The Heroes season started really rocky and way too slow for me. If all the episodes had been as intense as this week’s it would have gained and maintained a greater audience I think. But then next to 24 everything needs to be REALLY good to hold interest.
