My Day Of Rest

Filed under: Balance, Family, Housework, Sharing — holly.schwendiman @ 6:47 pm

Well, this has been an interesting Saturday. And I find it fitting to sit down and blog for a moment. Normally, I don’t spend time at the computer on weekends because it’s family time for me and we keep ourselves pretty busy. But today was just weird and as I’ve seen Napoleon Dynamite so many times, I figure the family can finish watching it and I’ll just blog for a minute. Besides, I grew up in Preston. Been there, done that. LOL

I had such grand plans for today. I was going to get my garden planted, my house cleaned and maybe we’d take in a family movie or something too. But alas, the weather was windy and gross, I ended up making an unexpected trip to the doctor’s office with my daughter for an ear infection confirmation and prescription, Aunt Flo rudely interrupted my physical balance and by the time the family lunch outing was done I found myself with zero energy. In short, the entire day went on tilt. My solution: do nothing. *wink* I’ve dubbed today as my day of rest so I’m just not worrying about it. I figure all the work staring at me in the face will still be there Monday. So hopefully, no one will come knocking at my door until Monday afternoon. Besides, I have to get caught up by then or I won’t be able to enjoy 24 and that would be a sin. LOL

I feel a bubble bath coming on. I think I’ll adopt the phrase, “I’m not being lazy I’m just charging my battery.” That works right?

  1. I LOVE that phrase. I might just have to steal it. Thanks for visiting my blog. I love yours!!!

Thanks Lauren, so fun of you to stop by for a visit. I’m thinking it might make a good motto myself…LOL

  2. I get so frustrated when I have days planned and the unexpected pops up and changes things..Seems like you have a great attitude though!

Thanks Amy, I try. I find my energy is too valuable to waste on negative things. Lemonade out of lemons - that’s the way right?

  3. I think we all need to take some time occasionally and just turn off. Thank you for the timely reminder. My wife and I have been cleaning the house for much of the day: I think it’s time we took a break and simply spent time together.

    Thanks!

Well, here’s to some time off then. I look forward to hearing what you do with yours. ;)

  4. Good for you to take a break. I was feeling guilty because during the snowstorm (and snow day), I accomplished almost zilch. But I did put together a 500-piece puzzle, with some help from my kids. So I guess it wasn’t a total loss;)

I’m not very good at taking time for myself, but I’m getting better. F(or me, it would be a sin to miss Grey’s Anatomy;))

Hope you had a great weekend.

Oh, and GARDEN????? Good grief - we have two feet of snow out our door!

    Great post.

Ah Kelly, my heart always smiles when I see your name come up on comments. I think it’s so important to pause once and while, take in some snow days, puzzles and bubble baths. I probably don’t do it enough but at least I recognize the importance of it in my life now. ;)

  6. Sorry to hear about your daughter’s ear infection. I hope she’s feeling better soon! I hope you were able to get your batteries recharged, too!

We’ve been lucky that we’ve really not had much this cold/flu season so I can’t complain. So far the batteries are holding out, here’s hoping they make it through to tonight!!

  7. Sounds good to me!!!

    Yeah– GARDEN? Sheesh!

We figured we’d turn it into a family home evening tonight. I LOVE how much my kids learn about work and self reliance with a garden. It’s been too long since I could really dig into it and get serious with it again. Work, work, work but it will be worth it!
