Dream Big

Filed under: Emotions, Family, Inspiration, Motherhood, Potential — holly.schwendiman @ 8:26 am

This is a picture of my daughter a few years ago in the New York City Disney store. Of all the wondrous moments watching her drink in everything around her, this room was the most captivating for both of us. You could literally feel the dreams building inside her as she walked through it. I found myself getting misty eyed as I snapped this picture. I remembered so many of my own childhood dreams of grandeur and royalty in beautiful gowns and glory, a life with no restraints or limits to the things you could do and have.

Today I walk through a room of dreams for her. My walls and shelves are full of all the best things I want for her. I want her to have one of everything, to have everything good and of value. Above all, I want her to never stop dreaming big. The rooms of our dreams may change over the years, but the concept remains - keep dreaming.

  1. Hi Holly!

I love that picture! And you’re right, as moms,
we’re in such an important position to help our
kids (especially our daughters) dream BIG, and
    keep their dreams alive.

BTW, I’m finally writing on my personal blog
(Echoes of Cold Moon) again. I just added you
on my blogroll today. Come by and visit me
    sometime! I miss you.

    Warmly, Hueina

  3. I love that picture, it reminds me of how small we are in such a big world… and all the possibilities! :D

Oh I love that concept - small in a big world of possibilities - awesome!

  4. That’s a great post Holly.

“Today I walk through a room of dreams for her.”

What a quotable quote. Very cool.

Thanks! That one kind of snuck up on me. ;)

  5. That’s what nice about being a kid, you can dream big and not have reality smack you in the face. It would be nice if as adults, we could still continue to dream without people labeling you a “dreamer”

It’s sad that reality becomes the bigger room as we grow isn’t it?

  6. My daughter says that is just the dresses for her !

Yes, they’re good at seeing what’s just right for them aren’t they?

  8. What a beautiful post. It’s so wonderful when you think of all the possibilities that lay ahead for them!

    Isn’t it though?

  9. I wish I had a daughter… (actually, I love my son, but I do miss out on getting to do all the frilly stuff…)

I have to admit that it all seems even more glamorous with more options now than when I was little and I find myself constantly in awe.

  10. As women, I think we all know what our daughters dream about….since we shared much of the same dreams ourselves. And it’s nice to have those same dreams again through them, to remember what it was like when imagination free to take us anywhere without guilt or loss of possibility.

Isn’t that the truth? Hope you have a truly wonderful weekend.

  11. Hi Holly, what a coincidence that you say “Dream Big” - because I tagged you today for a really interesting meme about setting your life goals! I’m not normally really big on these blog projects but enjoyed this one and think that you might enjoy it too… hope so, anyway!
    :-) Jen

How fun! I’ll give it some thought this weekend and post about it early next week.
