“All My Whole Big Family - All Uv Dem”

Filed under: Emotions, Family, Motherhood, Perspectives, Relationships — holly.schwendiman @ 1:15 pm

His big phrase has been "All my whole big family, all uv dem" for several weeks. He loves knowing he has more family out there and wishes that he could be with all of them all of the time. I love watching my children go through these stages of development, when they begin seeing the relationships around them and put meaning to those relationships. I remember how cool it was to learn about my own family relationships. To learn that my uncles were my mom's brothers just like me and my brother. I am constantly in awe at the learning and growth of my kids.

Today, I'm so grateful for a child's heart that loves and reaches out to all his family. In his perfect world, we'd all live in the same house and be together all the time and everyone would be his brudder or sister! Maybe he's just realized what most of us spend our entire lives searching for...that we really aren't alone.

  1. My son likes to say, “Our whole family is here.” Of course, he’ll say that even when someone is napping or at school.

It’s so much fun isn’t it? Nice to be loved. :)

  2. Isn’t it nice to know that we are loved. I always loved spending hours in the summer with my cousins doing nothing.

    Great memories aren’t they?!

  3. My daughter makes sure her kids know that their grandparents are her parents, and their aunts and uncles are their parents’ siblings.

My kids are the ones who keep that straight at my house. I can’t tell you the number of times my daughter has handed the phone to me saying “Your mother wants to talk to you” or “Here’s your son!” it just cracks me up.

  7. when my now 26 year old was learning to talk, she didn’t quite have the concept of “more”, She said Too much,

Ice cream: Give me toooo much mommy.
Swinging: Push me toooo high mommy.

    you get the picture.

    Miss those days….”all of dem.”

I’m so impressed you remember the phrase. There are so many things I think I’ll remember and then I don’t. They sure grow fast don’t they?
