Music

Music leader was one of my favorite callings. I have so many visual aids and ideas to get shared here! Here’s a few I’ve already shared in the past:

Helps

  • Planning, Awards, Music Madness
  • Meters
Ways to measure volume and performance when singing are always wonderful tools to encourage participation. I would make my own from clip art that I’d adapt. Sometimes I’d use the string to move something up and down, other times I’d do a colored paper in a back pocket. Following with themes, events and seasons are always fun. One year I made round medals for gold, silver and bronze during the Olympics. I’d hold up a corresponding medal when they were singing and change it while they kept singing to encourage a gold performance. Here’s a few other pictures of some I made (and kept!):

    Fun Selection
This is how you make singing time more engaging for the kids. It’s a simple concept of finding ways to go through your list of songs to sing with more fun. It can be as simple as putting together a puzzle, picking flowers from a vase, etc. The sky’s the limit on various ways you can make choosing songs to sing fun. Here’s a few of my favorites:

Treasure Pockets: These were so well received. Sometimes the pockets held nothing but colored Popsicle sticks or crazy pipe cleaner pieces but it was always a hit. Each would have the name/number of a song attached.

Fishing: You can never go wrong with these. You can do simple magnets and pull them off the floor or create a poster to pull them off of or add them to.

Reverse Umbrella: This was one of my kid’s favorites. I’d tape these stringed raindrops, leaves, snowflakes, etc. into the underside of the umbrella letting them come pull one off to choose the next song.

Puzzle: This can work with pieces building a puzzle or taking pieces off to reveal a picture. They’re easy to put together with holidays and seasons.

Combo: This is when I’d combine a meter theme with other game elements like boys/girls, etc.
